Hi. As some of you may have seen in the Tech Support forum, I have been having problems with my AMD system with a Shuttle AK31A mobo. It does seem that my board died so I am looking for a new Mobo and I thank Jesus that there are some very cheap Socket A mobo's @ Newegg (guess Socket A is really, really becoming value ground?).

Now, are there any recommendations on boards? Stability is prolly the main thing. I really don't do a lot. Just office work. I would like on-board Audio, but it doesn't need to be anything top. My current system was just using the cheap AC'97 on the AK31A board. I don't need Onboard NIC or Video. Basically, I'm just looking for stability. I hopped on to Newegg to find Asus A7V600 and A7N8X variants avaialble close to my price range (basically cheap as possible).

Which chipset is the way to go? I see some KT400's (namely, Asus A7V8X-X for $59 which is a KT400) but should I generally stay away from VIA's? I've used twio VIA's before (KM133 and KT266a). How's nForce2 Ultra 400? Any recommendations or suggestions would be helpful. I would like to get this ordered as soon as possible. Thanks! Jesus Loves You!

I'd highly recommend the ASUS A7N8X-X. It's $70 shipped at Newegg. Uses nForce2 Ultra 400 chipset, fastest Socket A chipset on the market. Onboard sound, LAN, etc. Quality, stable board. Have it in a system here.

Good to see you posting again A4A. Where you been?

Evan, I am leaning towards that OR the A7V600-X, which is the same price @ Newegg. Any comments on that comparison (esp. KT600 v. NF2 400)? Thanks!

The nForce2 Ultra 400 is better, go for it. :)

Also might consider the AN35N from Shuttle. Although with your recent experience, you may be off Shuttle:frown:

The AN35N is an NForce2 board with onboard sound and sells for $62 at Newegg. I have used several and have been very impressed. Others here on AT seem to like it too. Good luck.

What do you intend to recycle? CPU? RAM? Graphics card? If anything, please tell us what you have.

In that price range, the AN35N from shuttle is the way to go. Stay with the Nforce2 platform, and preferrebly nf2-ultra 400
