AS5 vs Céramique

I've been trying to find some reviews on both of the latest Arctic Silver products. Most sites only review one or the other, and the 2 sites i've found with both are opposing each other. So do anyone have some sites that post both? I'd like to know which is best.
 
what site would that be Vian?
the person who reviewed it on overclockers.com said he got better results with céramique, although he didn't give any numbers.
 
I would think it would be AS5 as I dont think they would release something that worse than their previous product and is more expensive.

AS5 is difficult to spread in a really thin layer because its so thick and peanut-buttery. So I think Ceramique would be give better results in some cases even if it is an inferior compound.
The first time I applied AS5 I just used a razor blade. The second time I spread it with my finger in a plastic bag and then used a razor blade to smooth it over. This way I was able to get it much thinner.

I think if they were going to skip AS4 they should have just called it AS6.. AS5 looks too much like ASS.

I use Ceramique and it is more difficult to spread than AS3. I can't imagine what AS5 is like, since Ceramique already seems (crispity, crunchity) "peanut-buttery" in comparison to AS3.
 
WHOA! For a second I thought it was a 5C difference! It more like 10 compared to silicone! My Aero7+ is at 1700RPMS! Thats the LOWEST SPEED!

well the specs say 3-12 degrees diff, assuming on how you put it on and how hot your cpu is. i knew all that already.
 
well i cleaned off the goo on my cpu and heatsink today because i noticed the temps were getting hotter and not cooler.

I had my fan blowing air ONTO the heatsink and that lowered my temps a few degrees but after seeing the lint and dust buildup on the heatsink i put it blowing air away from the heatsink.

cheapo goo = 47C / 32C
AS3 = 44 / 25C

running the same apps as i was earlier today. ambient room temp has been the same. nothing else changed except the fan orientation and AS3.

when i cut the apps and let it sit idle
cheapo goo = 43C / 30C
AS3 = 38C / 24C

still waiting for the burn in time. i don't think i put a thick enough layer on the core but will see what happens.

I think you'll be fine. I find that its hard to put it on thin enough. You only want enough to fill any imperfections in the base of the heatsink. It's ideal to have as much direct contact between the cpu die and heatsink base as possible.

yeah i did a pretty good job with the heatsink. i did a piss poor job initially cause i wanted to play with the new machine =D

Of course now you don't know for sure what caused the temp. drop since you changed two variables at once. Maybe the AS3 had nothing to do with it, but rather just changing the fan direction did, or at least partially responsible. 😉

true. but i still remember the temps from when i changed it from blow away from the heatsink and onto the heatsink. I tested the same day and saw a difference. My numbers now are 2-3 C cooler than before.

there's a front filter for the sonata. but the sonata has those stupid punched out holes that spell S_O_N_A_T_A and it lets in dust.

Like ass...LOL

I also use Ceramique and I applied a small blob as suggested on the web site. Works great that way. I could not see any temp differences when spreading evenly in a thin layer vs. the way Artic Silver suggests. Well, as a matter of fact, the Artic Silver way gave me about a 1c temp difference after about 3 days.

From personal reviews on the forums I have seen that AS5 is easier to apply and remove then the older varities. Other then that I don't know anything.

I certainly hope that you didn't apply the Ceramique the same way as the other AS products. You're not supposed to spread the Ceramique out. You're just supposed to put a small amount in the middle and then twist the hs on it.

I too am looking for a comparison and guess I'm going to have to find out for myself. I used Ceramique on my last build and I'm about to use AS5 on this one. I can't tell if Ceramique is any better than the AS3 that I used previously. The AS3 wasn't hard to spread, but the Ceramique was a little difficult to install even though I didn't have to spread it. The consistency is weird and it's hard to put just the right amount on the core.
