AS5 on the GPU and RAM

I've got some AS5 sitting here with nothing to do!

Is ti worth it to crack off the stock HSF on my X800XL and apply the AS5? I'm trying to squeeze as much speed out of the card as possible.

Are there any no-nos when applying AS5 to a GPU and RAM vs. a CPU??

Thanks.

So AS5 is safe for GPU and RAM? I'd use cheaper stuff on the RAM, but all I have is a tube of AS5

Nope, do not use AS5 on the mem chips as AS is conductive - only the GPU. Use cermique or just thermal paste for the mem chips

Thanks, that coulda got ugly.

Will that cheap tube of paste you always get for free with your HSF safe to use? I have some stuff I got from my Vantec P4 cooler.

Yeah, that's should be fine. When I had a 5600 ultra and a 9700 pro with a Zalman, that's all I used for the mem chips.

Cheap thermal grease is fine for the mem chips. GDDR3 ram runs fairly cool . . .

AS3 would be better than AS5 for the GPU since AS5 relies more on pressure than the AS3 (a CPU heatsink is much heavier) but it still works great . . .

Hey, Dark-

You have an X800XL too!? 460/575 is where I want to get to. Well, mine runs ok with the RAM at 580, but my GPU is stuck at 432mhz. What kinda cooling are u using? I'm still on the stock HSF, hence the reason I wanna use AS5 to squeeze a little more OC.

I'm using an ATI Silencer 5 Rev. 2. Yeah I know what you mean. I tried getting past 432 core with my stock cooler using AS5 as well but it didn't work out. So I just gave up and got the Silencer. The HSF is much more crucial if you want to reach 450+ core on that XL . . .
