AS3 on ram heat spreaders?

Will it make any kinda difference at all if i attach my thermaltake heat spreaders with arctic silver 3 as opposed to the thermal tape they include? just curious... that 512mb pc2700 samsung is REALLY tempting me right now...

Everything I've read suggests to me that heat spreaders are worthless. If you need cooling, then use actual heatsinks. Also, I've not found any articles indicating more than a 2-3 MHz bus speed increase from cooled memory, so you'd probably be best to focus on other system components.

As for the original question of AS3 vs. tape, I think it makes very little difference.

AS3 is also somewhat electrically conductive. All it takes is a little smear of the stuff on any of the RAM module pins and you've hosed up the DIMM. I wouldn't risk it.
