Does Artic Silver II EVER require re-applying on a P2-400 with a huge heat sink, cpu fan, and two system fans? I'm not talking about a month's worth of keeping it on in a room that's kept at 72. I'm talking about a room kept in the mid eighties during a long haul of several years into obsolescence. This will go into a computer for underpriviledged people who will run seti@home (at my request as a condition of me giving them a computer). Assume the future owners will not take care of it with dusting, etc. The chip is not overclocked.

I can tell you I know of a PIII box that has been running the original application of AS 1 for over three years now. Apply the AS and don't worry about it.

i've noticed on my 600 slot a athlon that the artic silver i put between it's heatsink and the cartridge had basically melted away after a few months
kinda odd but the fact that it wasn't as tite of a connection as might be seen between a smooth heatsink and the die (air flow) could have contributed to that
basically i feel that you should never have to reaplly
the silver particles should stay rested into the micro grooves and work nomatter if the paste is dry or not
but it might be less effective apply again for peice of mind hehe

Regarding AS1, I've heard that the original has less viscosity under high heat conditions than the updated AS2. It should have even less of a problem, then. Thanks, guys.
