As we get older, men's stock goes up while women's stock goes down.

Let me float this theory:

1) Guys are pretty much at the bottom of the totem pole when they are young. Between ages 16-24 if you're not in college you're probably working some crappy job, maybe even living at home. You might go out and get dates, but it's really hard to impress the ladies when you're driving around in your beatup El Camino. You are less desirable, then say, a 30-35 year old whose making good money, has some job security, and maybe even owns his own house.

2) Women on the other hand, are very desirable in their early years. Especially the attractive ones who can choose any guy they want and are never deprived in the attention department. Generally, they tend to feel more committed around the guy with the stable job whose making the decent money and whose got a little security in their lives (i.e., the older guys). And in our society there is no question that the younger women are more desirable than the older women.

We've seen or heard the scenarios. Older guy divorces wife --and this may sound like a cheesy enquirer title-- to be with a younger woman. And on the flip side, younger girls dump young guys to be with older ones. Is this a current trend, or has it always been around?

So it sounds true to me that men's stock increases with time while a women's stock decreases.

From my experience, I'd say that's definitely true. I'm 21, but may as well be 30-something, as I own my own home, make great money, have job security, etc.. I definitely see a stronger urge from women to stick around when they know I've got my act together, and they know they could be taken care of if need be.

I don't think it's a bad thing, as I'm equally attracted to women who are stable, have their life in order, etc..

Well I'm 21, own my own co-op (in NYC) have a degree, a good paying (and stable) job... Yet I don't seem to see the ladies lining up. Oh wait, perhaps it's cause I'm an emotionally disconnected prick (last GF's thoughts)... bingo!!!

I think that's generally true. Notice how it's also generally thought that "men tend to age better in comparison to women". Although lately I've been seeing a lot of "older" women who still look really hot -- this could be because I'm an older guy now. I could have swore that when I was a young teenager I thought most 30 year old women looked like old mothers -- but now I see a lot of 30-ish women who look really young and attractive.

I've also noticed that I see many more "ugly men/pretty women" combos than "handsome men/plain women" combos. Sometimes I think that most women know that their looks will fade with age and therefore tend to look more at what's inside a man than what's on the outside (or maybe they are looking at how big his wallet is! :p)

One thing I like about living in a college town: You get older every year, but the girls stay the same age. :D
