As the general rule of thumb, heavy PSU's are well made ones correct?

I just got in a cheapo PSU as a tempory replacement for a Antec that died. When I picked up the box, I must say I was impressed. It only costed $16.50 + shipping and is by far heavier than the Antec.

It's 12V rail kinda lacks... especially for a 580W PSU. Only 19a. But I am thinking from how heavy this PSU is that perhaps I can mod it.

BTW, it is made from some company I never heard of before, Echo Star. And it only is a temp replacement unless I can figure out howto mod the 12V rails. What are all you thoughts?

Well if it weighs more that really doesn't tell you much, Open the top and have a look did they use small transistors and just put a bigger HS on them? thats probably the case.

bump -- I had the same query a while back -- want to mod a server psu -- got no responses...... how to mod PSU's that is the question --
I did have the general idea that heavier is better, but also look at the complexity of the circuitry..... PC & cooling supplies -- generally regarded as the most powerful , have some seriious shiznit going on inside their PSU's
