The Oakland A's have reached a deal to move to Fremont and build a new ballpark there, sources told San Francisco Chronicle columnist Phil Matier - who is also a CBS 5 commentator - and KCBS Radio.

It's about 20 miles south of where they are as of now and about 10 miles north of San Jose..but more importantly about 10 miles away from me.

me too! Where are you from Union City or Fremont? We will prob be called The Oakland Athletics of Fremont. Fremont A's just doesn't sound right.

Off Alvarado Blvd, about a mile from Union Landing. Where do you live?

Cool, I live about an hour from Fremont...too bad I'm a diehard Giants fan 🙂

Hopefully for you Bonds won't come back and the Giants get serious about rebuilding. It would be funny if the A's signed him tho.

LOL. I live half a mile from Union Landing right off of Dyer.

WOOT! I live in SJ but work off Dixon Landing in Milpitas. This move will make it easier to go to a lot more home games in the evenings. Sweet!

Traffic will be absolutely terrible on game days. No BART station down there, crowd should be bigger, and traffic is already horrendous in that area.

I hope they really fix the roads asap if this happens. They have been working off that Warren exit for years now. 880 is already congested as it is.

Fremont As or San Jose's?

Most likely the Oakland A's of Fremont.

I doubt it.

They wanted San Jose so they can tap our market but the Giants wouldn't let it. I suspect it'll rename to Bay Area or even Silicon Valley or they might even call it the San Jose A's.

Numerous teams are named via major cities but where they play isn't anywhere close. So its unheard of. Plus its only about 15 minutes away.

In the baseball word I give the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim.

The only thing is this, will they jack up ticket prices by a lot. The one thing I always loved abotu the A's were ticket prices were so cheap.

That's friggin' stupid. Does BART even go there? Traffic is going to be an absolute NIGHTMARE! It's already bad through there, now add another 30,000 people. Luckily it probably won't happend until the year 2020.

Don't hold your breath on this...Most likely just a ploy to force more concessions out of Oakland. Happens quite regularly...nothing binding is usually signed, only letters of intent...

There is a Fremont BART station, I dunno what people are talking about. Now whether it'll be near the stadium is another story.

Nah, I want Bonds back, it just won't be the same without him. Plus I want to watch him break the record in a Giants uniform, where he belongs.

There was a game when one of the heads talked to Ray Fosse up in the booth. They talked about the move and he concluded that it would likely be similar to the Angels at they would keep Oakland in their name.

Well, they DID change from the Kansas City Athletics to the Oakland Athletics, so a name change isn't out of the question...sports teams are just VERY expensive whores, willing to go with anyone who has the price...and it's US taxpayers who get the fvcking...because WE have to pay for it all...

It won't be anywhere within walking distance. It'll be by Nummi.

True. Right now, they are at 66th and Hegenburger Exit (which are Airport exits also) and there is mostly nothing else there except for some commercial places. So traffic isnt much on regular days but on game days, it gets very busy (even though Bart is nearby)

880 in Union city/Fremont is already very congested during morning/evening rush hour. Add that stadium will make it worse on game evenings.

Also, Oakland is a much more central location to the Bay area and people drive down to Oakland (From Marin and Solano county) during the game b/c the drive is ~30-40 min. Moving to Fremont will loose many of those people as the drive will become ~1hr-1.5hrs without traffic. Add rush hour traffic and double that (if not triple).
