Wow, that's dirt cheap. I was looking at RC helis a few years ago, and they were closer to $800.

No, I pretty much bought it on a whim. I was at the hobby store picking up a new exhaust pipe for my nitro car (my brother-in-law bounced it off a curb back in November and I haven't gotten around to fixing it yet) and there was a guy flying a similar model around in the store.

They had an indoor model and an indoor/outdoor model which is the one I bought. It has a larger rotor and a tail rotor. The indoor one has two small main rotors and no tail rotor.

I bought one and another guy there bought the same model. They must sell one or two everytime they break that thing out and fly it around the store. I'm such a sucker.

I just tried it out in my livingroom. There's definitely a learning curve. I'm just trying to figure out how to keep it under control when it leaves the ground. Rudder control is key and it is fairly neutral right now but it's difficult to think that the nose turns the opposite direction from the way you move the rudder control. Then there's the rotor control which works on 4 different planes.

I did manage to get it a few inches off the ground a couple times but quickly set it back down because I wasn't too confident in my ability to make it do what I wanted. It's definitely going to take some time.

The hobby store I bought it from helped set it up and they flew it so I know it's setup properly. The point were it begins to take off it becomes difficult to control. I know it's just a matter of finesse and learning how much input to give to get the desired results...kind of like sex.

Oh, and my son is very interested in it too. Too much so in fact...I had to explain to him that I don't even know how to fly it yet and that it's way too difficult and dangerous for him to get near or fly. Tough to explain that to a 3 1/2 year old...

She doesn't even know I bought it. She's in Palm Springs visiting her Mom. She'll be home tomorrow.

Yeah, maybe I'll be able to fly it by the time she gets home.;)

looks like it could be easily used as a weapon, but most adult toys usually are.

Well, I don't think you could actually kill someone with it but it isn't for kiddies that's for sure.

Those rotors are made out of balsa wood and are very light. The guy at the hobby shop said he got hit in the arm with one and it made a nice bruise but that's about it.

I'd be more worried about the damage I'd do to it than the damage it would do to someone else.

The reason I no longer build R/C airplanes is because they turn into scrap peices of balsa wood WAY too easily. I suck at flying them, and crash them, and break them into little peices too much.

Good luck with the helicopter, which is even harder to fly :)

Looks cool.

As a weapons platform this thing would probably lift something the equivalent weight of a mouse and that's about it.

Make a release door with an egg inside it then.

An egg would probably be too heavy.
