Oh yeah, their sensitivity is 93dB...VERY VERY good if you have a reciever that doesn't ouput a lot of watts...even better for high-powered ones.

High-bandwidth amps have your way with these:D

Um, I'm not trying to thread crap or anything, but you could get yourself into some low end NHT's or B&W speakers for this price range.

Defintely. As i staid, this is not the best price available. BUT, since it is @ BB, it appeals to the people looking for financing. Since these speakers are fantastic, it is a pretty good deal for those stuck to CC or BB.

Athena isn't bad, it is the lower-end brand of Audio Products International which also makes Energy and Mirage. Lower-end NHT can be pretty good, but lower-end B&W is just alright IMO. I'd say that these Athenas have the stuff to be as good as or better than lower-end NHT or B&W or even better than lower-end PSB which is hard to beat in this price range. Plus there's no harm in taking this home and listening to it with full return priveleges and I can't imagine an NHT or B&W dealer offering you that. I got my start with both NHT and PSB, but I think these Athena could be worth a listen at the end of the day it boils down to personal preference, but the Athenaa are a contender for sure.

I agree once your in the $600 range you can get a lot of nice stuff that will blow this stuff away. I'm kind of an audiophile so my opinion might be skewed.
BUT ITS SO MUCH BETTER TO BUY USED NICE AUDIO EQUIPEMENT THEN NEW LOW END ITEMS.

Pick up a used pair of Snell acoustics speakers (basically any snell speakers ever made sound better than these), B&W DM602 S3 , NHT 2.5i

If you want to go super budget the best two sets of cheap speakers ever in my opinion are Paradigm Atom's MSRP $200(my pick) or NHT superzero's MSRP $150 (onecall.com) paired with a decent subwoofer. As for subwoofer don't skimp here either get a velodyne, Klipsch KSW-12 $250 , b&W, M&K spend around $400 on this used.

I am totally with you, Bmott. My entire audio system is pretty much made up of used equipment. Denon 2803, B&W CDM7-NT's, Legacy Audio 10" sub (which totally pwns). Center channel and rears, I bought new. So, my advice is visit and revisit the high end stores until somebody returns some nice speakers so you can get them on the cheap. :D

Of course, which speakers sound best to you (and that you can afford) are the ones you should buy.

I've been trying for years, but I still haven't been able to find a pair of speakers for less than a thousand dollars that even approach the original Advents. And they can still be found used for a couple of hundred dollars or so, and sometimes for a lot less.

I haven't heard these myself but I do know they have been favorably reviewed.
Nice to see best but is picking up decent audio gear for a change (wharfedale, now athena, and soon klipsch synergy!!)

Oh yeah - if Circuit City is carrying these, you might want to price match. In terms of electronic chains, CC is the best to get speakers from b/c if you decide to upgrade w/i the span of 1 year, you get to return your good condition/ working speakers in for your full purchase price and pay the difference for the newer pair.

Sometimes - usually the non-pricematching type - end up getting free cds and etc b/c their original purchase price was so high that the newer speakers ended up costing less than their old set! Oh yeah, and if you do upgrade, those speakers also get that 1 year deal! I plan on taking advantage of this for quite a whiles....

I definitely agree with you, but this is aimed at the crowd that wants new equipment from a store near them with FININACING available.

I lost track count of the times my parents bought stuff at CC or BB just for that reason when they could have saved hundreds elewhere.
