As a computer/network/system tech, how hard is it and what does it pay?

I used to make a good living until my previous business went belly up.

Anyways, right now, I make about $500-800 a week, working about 1 to 2 days a week (total of about 8-12 hours a week).
Mostly doing computer repairs, setting up networks, maintenance, etc. All my work is from word of mouth.

Lots of fun and I get to meet lots of interesting people. I've gotten many interesting perks and favors out of my customers. Alot of them are from people who work in City Hall, lawyers, doctors, etc. It's great. I never have to pay for another parking or moving violation, I get local and national FOP lodge cards, get free or cheap work from some lawyers, get my car back from the city if they tow it without paying, etc. 🙂 I even went for body massages with a couple of judges! 😀

Hmmm...your city sounds extremely corrupt. This just doesn't seem right:

I never have to pay for another parking or moving violation
That could get someone in the police department in BIG trouble.

get my car back from the city if they tow it without paying
Another thing that could get people in major trouble.

Cops in Ann Arbor get in trouble for something as minor as not showing up for a court date for a ticket.

And just last week, someone in the City Administrator's office got fired for using his access to a city computer system to erase a speeding ticket from his record. He's looking at jail time now.

I'm not thread crapping...and I'm not saying that you're not telling the truth, but I just think you should be wary of who you accept favors from. Those are some good job perks for a computer guy, though.

If I could make $500 - $800 a week for working 8-12 hours a week, I'd quit my computer/network/system tech job! I'd have 28 more hours to spend with the family, work a 2nd job, or whatever I wanted.

It's ok but nothing compared to what I used to make working for myself and at the dot.com.
It's also not easy. I worked up clients for over 5 years to get where I am. Now that someone trusts you and know you'll get the job done, they'll be willing to pay you more for your work.

JuMpR629, I don't get cops involved with anything. It's the judges that does me favors! 😀 So who's gonna find out? I can see if we do this out of the system and being sneaky about it but everything is legit. Except, I know the judges, of course. 🙂 I have another friend that used to be pretty high up in City Hall and did alot of things for the former Mayor.
Cops aren't REQUIRED to come to court hearings.

$3.35 an hour + tips

That's normal for a job that pays tips. Tips are damn good though, depending on where you work. I normally tip 20% or minimum $2 a person for anything under $15-20. Of course, I have a friend that gets some miserable tips waitering (such as a party of 6 or 8 that eats $200 and tips $10. :|
