I live in Toronto, and I hear anti-US comments not infrequently. However, it's mainly by people who just need something to complain about it. Old fogies who are just crotchety, or younger people who think most Americans fit the Wal-Mart-lovin' mullet-sportin' stereotype. (Note: Yes, I'm a snob that hates Wal-Mart too, but I will admit I do occasionally will shop there.)I spnd about a month a year in Canada never seen hate. One guy bitched about "illegal aliens" (Americans who over stay and become bumbs) though.
What I tell them is that idiots in the US of A would probably be idiots in Canada too, but that falls on deaf ears. It's easier to be a xenophobe than it is to look at these things logically.
Along the same lines, another place Canadians like to complain about is Toronto. I grew up in Western Canada and I've lived in various spots in Canada. If they're in a place that isn't Toronto, they complain about Toronto, even if they've never been there before. They assume Torontonians are full of themselves, and are basically @ssholes. Then I've had a few people from these areas come visit, and they discover they actually like it a lot. Go figure.
