We returned from another relaxing trip to Aruba. It was our second trip to the island. We fell in love with the happy island during my daughter's Spring Break trip in 2017. Nothing changed this trip other than the island seemed little more crowded this trip. I would really like to eventually buy a property in Aruba. I'm already planning a return trip to this wonderful island.

Eagle Beach. Best beach in Aruba IMO.

Rogers Beach. My favorite small beach in Aruba. Located immediately west of Baby Beach. Everyone goes to Baby Beach so Rogers Beach is empty giving it private beach feel.

Zeerovers. Ate here 3 times during our week long trip. My favorite restaurant in Aruba.

$27 cash for 3 whole red snappers and little over 1 lb of shrimp. Can't beat the price, food, or the atmosphere at Zeerovers

Nice pictures. Looked up Aruba on wikipedia, and I'm not convinced. Is there local culture that gets routinely experienced, or is it an isolated tourist spot that could be on an oil platform for all intents and purposes? Hot and dry isn't really my thing, but being on the ocean might help. Looks a bit like Australia without the animals from hell, though wikipedia does say they have rattlesnakes. Critically endangered, with <250 animals left.

Thanks for looking! We had a wonderful time and didn't want to leave. I needed this trip. I feel so recharged now.

Beautiful pics!! Would love to travel there someday.
Thanks! Hope you get there someday. It's our favorite Caribbean island.

You never had whole red snapper? o_O You're missing out! But if you're not a fan of eating whole fish, they also have filet of fish. This is slice of wahoo fish. It was my first time eating wahoo. It tasted lot like mackerel.

But I highly recommend the whole red snapper. It's actually pretty hard to order that at Zeerovers. Whole red snapper sells out fast and you usually have to go during lunch or late afternoon if you want the chance to eat it. All other times, you can only get the slices of the catch of the day which is usually slices of red snapper and not whole, mahi-mahi, barracuda, or wahoo. I've had it all and the whole red snapper is by far the best.

Perhaps you're more regular fish and chips person. We had that at Cafe 080. $12 fish and chips platter along with $9 flammkuchen. Another cheap restaurant we ate at. Aruba is an island so food is normally pretty expensive but there are plenty of bargain places if you get away from the crowded and expensive Palm Beach area.

I didn't see yours, but these suck! How do you go to Aruba, and not take one bikini pic?!?
I generally dislike crowds. Plus I'm not a creep.

I don't go to Aruba for culture. I go for the guaranteed sun and wind weather, beautiful beaches, and the friendly Aruban hospitality. It's a tiny island and you can drive from one end of the island to the another in about an hour. If you don't like hot and dry, you probably won't like Aruba. It's always the same weather there year round and the wind blows constantly 15-25 mph. But because it's out of the hurricane belt, you never have to worry about hurricanes like you do in the rest of the Caribbean islands. And there are no horrible seaweed problems in Aruba like you see in Florida, Mexico, and parts of the Caribbean. If you're not familiar, massive seaweeds on the beach and in water are huge problem in Florida and Mexico.

Nice thing about Aruba is that since it's so windy all the time, you don't feel as hot as long as you can find shade during the day. And free shade is easy to find on the beach. There are numerous trees, palapas, and huts that provide free shades. And once the sun goes down at night, it's nice to be able sit and dine outside at restaurants and enjoy free air conditioning from the 15-20 mph winds. It's perfect weather to sit on the patio or balcony, relax, and drink some cold Chill or Balashi beer.

Is it windy there?
Very windy. 15-25 mph winds 24/7 is the norm there. Some people hate the wind. I love it. Because of the wind, I can be at the beach all day under a shade and not feel hot. I love taking naps at the beach in the shade. And at night time, the wind is wonderful. It's like free outdoor air-conditioning. You can sit for hours outside at a bar and feel refreshed.

I forgot to mention another big reason why we love Aruba. People in Aruba are so nice, friendly, and happy. It's like they always have a smile on their face and are genuinely nice and helpful. And the service at restaurants on the island is generally better than the service I receive in the US. That's pretty big deal considering the service in the US is generally very good. You won't get the crappy, slow, disinterested island time service you get in many parts of the Caribbean. And the drinking water is very good. Island tap water is better than any water you'll find in the US. It's rated #2 water in the world behind Canada.

Sounds nice. I especially like the wind. Doubt I'll ever go, but if I wanted tropical, that sounds like the place to be.

DR should be nice and empty since so many Americans canceled their trips there. I know Delta and JetBlue offered free flight cancellation to DR. Are you local? Most people stay at all inclusive resorts in DR and never venture out or drive there. It's supposedly not very safe island outside the resorts for Americans. I've never been to DR as I'm not a fan of all inclusive. I'm actually going to my very first all inclusive in Hyatt Ziva Los Cabos next week to do some fishing and golf.

purbeast0 have been going to Grand Cayman lately. He's into scuba now and GC is much better place than Aruba for scuba.

The beaches look empty because I seek out areas of the beach with few people. Eagle beach is generally not super crowded and Rogers beach is never crowded. Sometimes we're the only people at Rogers Beach. Most tourists stay at Palm Beach in high rise hotel resorts like the Hyatt, Marriott, Hilton, and the Ritz. The beaches there are packed with people like sardines and they have to get up like at 6 am to reserve palapas. I'm anti- Palm Beach and avoid that area like the plague. Luckily, most tourists who stay in Palm Beach hotels don't rent a car and never leave Palm Beach. Which leaves the rest of the island to us. There's so much to Aruba than Palm Beach. Palm Beach = basically Florida.

looks like a great time. I personally preferred Bonaire to Aruba (haven't been to Curacao yet) for a variety of reasons (mostly due to how quiet it is).

And ponyo should not be criticized for not being a creepy perv who takes pictures of girls in bikinis. We need people with principles on this forum... because I sure as hell am not that guy. Using children for my benefit in Cancun:

I haven't been to Aruba since 2017 for my 36th birthday. I spent my birthday on the Jolly Pirates snorkel tour then we ate at Barefoot for dinner that night. I love that damn island!

I have however been to Grand Cayman 4x since then. That is starting to fight for first place on my favorite islands.

Was talking to my wife today about going to Aruba in November for my birthday this year and she wants to go somewhere new since we've been there 5x. The thing is, SW flies to Aruba and we'd have free flights for all 3 of us to go there. If we go to St. Martin or St. Thomas, we will have to pay for flights.

The fact you can rent a car and drive all over the island is one of the best parts of Aruba. It's the same in GC.

Also, my favorite activity in Aruba is renting ATV's for a full day and cruising the rugged side of the island. I've done it the last 3 times I have been there and it gets more fun each time because I'm more comfortable on the ATV.

No @purbeast0 ?

How is the snorkeling in Aruba, casual snorkelers prefer calm and clear waters.
If you are not a very experiences snorkeler, snorkeling in Aruba will be good. If you've experienced really good snorkeling, I'd give it a 3 or 2 on a scale of 5.

A lot of the coral is bleached and you won't see any very large sea life there. Also, due to the wind, one day you can have 100ft of visibility and the next day 20ft. But there is some good snorkeling from shore. 2 of the 3 main spots the snorkel trips take you on can be reached from shore.

The only one that can't really be reached is the Antilla shipwreck. But that is a more advanced spot just due to conditions, and in all honesty, you don't even see much of the shipwreck anyways. The first time I went in 2005 (and got locked up at the airport if you remember my post back then) the tip of the ship was sticking out of the water and it's moved quite a bit since then. In 2017 the tip of the boat is like 10-15 feet underwater now.

Why is its butthole staring at me? I'm not sure that I could eat that...

That's the back/'shoulder' bone/cartilage. It's a cross-section cut across the fish (rather than a fillet).

Wahoo is one of my favorite. Fresh caught wahoo sashimi is amazing.

I have a bunch of king mackerel steaks cut like that (as well as a ton of filets) in my freezer right now that I caught a couple weeks ago. I still haven't eaten any of it yet though but my neighbors made some the other day and said it was great. I had so much I was giving it away to everyone.

Reminds me of when we went to the Cook Islands - If you're looking for the same (clear water, sun + wind) I would suggest giving it a look. The bonus? It's no tourist hot-spot. Beaches were practically empty.

Food was awesome too.
