Artura or a used 720S

Which one would you choose? A 5K mile 3 year old 720S would be the same price or lower compared to a new Artura.

It's a McLaren, so the steep initial depreciation hit will have already happened on the 720S.

The 720S has better outright performance without the need for a fashionable hybrid system. The Artura drives better as an all around driver and will have a full warranty.

You're going to sell it in a few months anyway, why not rent one instead?

Whichever one won’t get passed by a $5000 90s Miata at your local track. So I guess neither

Even if you were to track the car, I'd still answer 720. It allows you to move into and out of the car with the least amount of exposure. Also, I don't view these as daily drivers. So to take the raw and special feeling out to make it a better daily, is the wrong direction IMO.

What about the 2024 GTS then?

I think that would be the middle ground between the two if you want something new. The 720s from what I'm seeing is sitting at around 15-18% depreciation for the year/mileage you're looking at. If you keep it for a year it'll probably lose only around 5%, or less if the market stays strong for them since they're discontinued now. If you were to order a new GTS, assuming you can get one, then it's depreciation would probably be 5-10%. So there really won't be a huge difference between the 2 in cost. Again, assuming you only keep them for a year ish.

720S and its not even remotely close. If you can afford either the warranty doesn't matter unless you're a complete idiot and don't have 10x that amount in at least 1 house, and probably another 10x in liquid assets and then probably 10x that in investments.

That seems all arbitrary. Middle one check. First and second one are based on lifestyle choices. Why 10x non-liquid? He lives in a new house in a retirement community with retired / semi-retired couples. I doubt there is a desire to own 10x non liquid assets.

I have no idea where you're getting your numbers and I don't feel like they have any relevance. It would cost you like 65K + insurance to own a 720S for 1 year and you'd get 75% of the total amount paid towards the loan back after the sale.

How does McLaren's process actually work? Did the dealership have an actual allocation he was able to grab, did they have allocations the dealer used for dealer stock already in the system, or did they just put his name on a list? Perhaps the allocations for the vehicle aren't even open yet.

Not sure about the soon to come GTS. For the Artura, there are some sitting at dealerships in the US that can have them shipped.

I was gonna say, why not a GT?
Having good driveability and feel, nice and "soft" for a race car suspension, is what makes a car accessible and fun - having comfy seats and luggage space for a week away makes you actually use it as well.

An orange McLaren works, Papaya more so than a MP4-12 in that lava-orange.
I'm guessing that GT is "cheap" compared to the other options (based on the 540?) but still should be plenty to power to scare yourself/collect speeding tickets like others do Pokémon cards.

Also, you're not far away from Ferrari 458 money at this point. Unless that's too ostentatious, might be worth consideration. It will probably be just as expensive between services and depreciation, over a year or two.

One big thing that's a consideration is service. If something happens there isn't a service center nearby. Not in the whole state of Ohio. It would have to be shipped to official McLaren dealers in Detroit, Chicago, or Philidelphia.
