Artist help? How do you draw mountains on maps.

I'm trying to draw a relief type map, while also labeling cities, of which some are located in the mountains.

How do you draw (pencil, shading) mountains, so they look realistic for relief?

I would do it on the computer but I suck at that too 🙂.

I've always seem them as dark lines getting lighter, pointed toward the top of the mountain. IE, imagine a circle with many lines pointed toward the origin, dark toward the outside and lighter on the inside. That's for artistic renditions. On standard military maps you just use elevation lines every 20 (I think) meters elevation. The closer together they are, the more rapid the climb.

Draw a line for the top of the range, then shade one side dark and one side lighter. I don't really know.. I've never drawn mountains on a map.
