Artifacts on bootup

This morning on bootup my screen was covered in artifacts, not enough to block out the screen text but they were everywhere. When I got to XP the monitor went to 'no signal'. What might cause this to happen after months of flawlessness?

I have a Sapphire GTO 2 softmodded video card.
