I just got my new evga 6600gt in the mail today, and decided to run 3dmark03 to test it out. I scored a 8248 which is quite a jump from my old x300se (1300 :))

During a couple of the tests (specificaly one of the cpu test where the two green guys start fighting and the chick with the lightening sword comes in, and the rotating elephant test), I got some pretty bad artifacts. One of the tests black boxes started to randomly appear, and the other pink textures appeared.

My core temp was around 60c and ambient temp was 50c.

Any idea what could be wrong, or is this normal for these test?

Did you clean out the ATI drivers with Driver Cleaner before installing the 6600? That might help.

I don't think the artifacting is normal.

It's definitely not normal.

Since your card is new I'd be talking directly with whoever you bought it from or eVGA. I see an RMA in your future.

yeah all the other drivers are gone, i'm now actualy getting artifacts in halo too (i played halo once i installed the card with no problems, no all of a sudden realy bad artifacts, that even start at the main selection screen).

I don't want to spend the money to ship the the card back to newegg for a rma if i dont have to, is there anything else that I could try?

I also tried 3 diff. types of drivers, latest from nvidia, omega, and an older version of nvidia.

I got the same card as you. I also got the same temps as you under load. It's probably a bad card.

sounds like a bad card. Do you have AA and AF enabled durring the tests and gameplay?

after playing halo for a while, the artifacts seem to slowly disapear, and are only ocasional/mild.

does that card have 2d/3d fan speed throttling? Maybe it's not spinning fast enough in 2d mode, since artifacts seem to go away after awhile in 3d?

im just going to rma it back to newegg tomorrow, does anyone know if you can ship a rma back via usps (priority or firstclass) instead of fedex. I'm asuming there not going to deny you your exchange, but you never know.
