I am recently getting artifacting playing World of Warcraft and Neverwinter Nights 2 in both WinXP and Vista. I can't figure out what it is. I'm assuming its my videocard overheating (fan is still spinning as always), so I cannot tell. Its an EVGA 6600GT. Could it be something else overheating? In Vista I cant seem to find a place where it tells you what the temperature of your cards are.

Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

download ntune from nvidia. the nvidia monitor will give you temps. Are you overclocking your system at all? that will cause artifacting. If not, time for a new video card.

I am not overclocking anything.

These are my specs
A64 3000+
ASUS A8N SLI Deluxe
1 GIG Patriot ram (cant remember speed)
EVGA 6600GT

Nothing else could be causing this? Where can i find safe temps for my card?

I am monitoring my cards temps and it never goes over 80degrees celcius. At full capacity it usually hovers around 77degrees and 55ish at idle.

is that too hot? A quick look on google showed that 77degrees is normal. So i dont see where my artifacting is coming from. could it be something else. I really dont want to get a new card since DX10 just came out and i rather wait for prices to come down. What can i do?

My evga 6600GT started artifacting in World of Warcraft and I rma'd it. Guess the 3D portion of the gpu was going out (desktop graphics looked fine.). I never overclocked it etc.

Also pull it out of the slot, wipe the contacts with a clean dry cloth, put it back.

Then remove all nvidia graphics stuff with driver cleaner, and go download and install the latest drivers from the nvidia website.

Say a little prayer.

Does it work? No? How's your voltages? OK? Then it really is time for a new video card.

How long did you have it before you RMA'd? I am not sure mine is still under warranty.

Tried that to no avail.

Ill try it, dont see how it would help though. If there was a bad seat it wouldnt work at all.

I tried the newest drivers w/ fresh windows installs on Vista and XP SP2.

Not sure if my voltages are good. How do I check? Must I use an overclocking utility?

I purchased my 6600GT in August of 2005. The original warranty for that model in 2005 was one year from evga. At the beginning of 2006 evga stepped up their warranty policy and allowed all products registered and under warranty at the beginning of 2006 to get an extra year. So technically my card bought in August of 2005 was warrantied until August of 2007!

My card started putzing out in November of 2006. I had owned it and used it daily for 13 months. I RMA'd it in November and they sent me a 6800XT instead of a 6600GT as a replacement!
