Is it worthwhile to buy a tube of AS3 if I already have a tube of the original AS?

Not unless a 3 degree drop means the world to you, but if it does then get it!

The original AS had problems "pumping out" from under the chip and could cause instability.

Look at Cermique if u get new stuff instead of AS3
