I know thi topic has been beat to death but, I was wondering how to tell if there is enough coverage. Can I remove the heat sink and look? If I do that do I have to reaply the compond? Do I have to clean the surfaces again? Then how do I know I have enough aplied again. I'm getting dizzy  I have the Alpha Pal6035 on a P3 866 not overclocked. Temps with Asus Probe are idle mb 23C cpu 31C ran some bench mark programs and played alittle Q3A went to 38C. I know these aren't accurate using Probe but it what I have.
thanks

clean off all old grease, and apply artic silver in a nice, fairly thin, even layer...

Sometimes a thicker layer works better, but it is probably better to try a thin layer first.

I already applied this once. I think I put enough on. I put a thin film on and covered the chip. It's a socket 370 cpu. I was just wondering how to tell if there is enough applied after putting everything together. Are my temp readings ok?(see other post)room temp is about 70F. I know they are not that accurate using probe.

How do you clean off the surface? I used white thermal grease before, and I want to remove it and reapply it with arctic silver. All i used was a napkin and I think i was able to wipe it all off. My Temp readings with the White Thermal Greese and a generic sucky ass heatsink was

CPU 55C/130F

Then after I installed the Alpha Pal6035 with the arctic silver my readings dropped to

43C/109F

Is that a good temperature?

My system is a Tbird 800 mhz on a Asus A7V mobo with a generic case. One intake, no exhausts.
