Artic Silver 5 Question

First of all, obviously the topic is Arctic, not Artic.

Ahem...

Is it ok to add more AS5 to a CPU and/or heatsink without cleaning the old stuff off if the only compound that has ever touched either is AS5? Keep in mind also that when I say 'old' in this case, I'm talking about two days old.

Short answer: absolutely not.

Long answer: clean it off with goof off then IPA 93%. Then re-apply using AS's method. Do not over apply or else your temps will skyrocket. Remeber Thermal compound has terrible thermal conductivity. Only reason why its used is because it's thermal conductivity is better than that of air. So, use only enough to fill the microporous air gaps between your cpu and heatsink.
