Artic Cooling Freezer 64

Was looking around for heatsinks and found the Freezer 64. Dont see much in the board about it, but seems to have good reviews so wondering why dont see more about it. Looks lighter than some of the zalman coolers.

It's actually a pretty good HS, ocforums.com, a guy got temps just as good as the xp-90, maybe 1C higher, thats about it. Another HS you should look into is the hyper6, it's HUGE and you can put dual fans.

I have one and it is very nice. I don't care how it looks, not like I have a window on my case.

Ditto, Ericlala.

Once in a while you get to see an advertisement that provides useful comparison information:

Thermal Resistance: 0.20°C/Watt

The Zalman CNPS-7700 (0.19), the ThermalRight XP120 (0.167), and the ThermalRight XP90 (0.18) all trump this cooler. The difference will show in the load temps assuming that room ambient and idle values are all the same for these coolers. However, some coolers have slightly warmer idle temperatures, but the idle-to-load spread is smaller. It is this latter difference which is determined by the thermal resistance.

Hyper6 is terrible. One 92mm fan on an XP-90 would own two 80mm fans on that POS any day.

The Freezer is a great hsf though, very efficient and it doesn't have any "blind spots" as normal fans would. Too bad it looks terrible.

its a pretty good heatsink. I think its about equal to the xp - 90. most importantly is that its damn silent

I'm not into seriuous overclocking or anything...just looking for a decent heatsink for about $30-$40....trying to keep the cost under $500 for the rig

If you won't be overclocking, or even if you will be overclocking a bit, the stock heatsink will work fine for you.

Got in on the AMD 64 3000+ OEM for $115.....therefore I need a heatsink....aparently the best air-cooled heatsinks are about $35+

I have the Freezer 64 on my 3800+ Newcastle.
I chose it because on my MB, the fan blows to the back of the case directly at my rear 120mm case exhaust fan. I was attempting to lower my case temps more so than my CPU temps as I'm currently not OC'ing.
I will say that it is extremely quiet, but my CPU temps didn't drop like I expected. At load they only dropped ~1-2C using AS Ceramique. I was expecting more like 6-8C.
It's know ist's partly my CPU though as the Newcastle cores tend to run hot under load.
Either way though, I don't find it ugly. I think it looks fine, even though it doesn't really matter because I don't have a case window.

Overall I'm fine with it. But if I had to choose again, I would probably go with the XP-90 instead.

Well either way, if you won't be overclocking much you won't need a good air cooler. The Freezer would do just fine.

Oops
This cooler is very quiet, however w/ my 3200+@2.5Ghz, 1.67V the idle temps are higher than I would like 38C the load temps are also a little higher than I would like also 60C. I must mention though, its well over 90 degrees F in my room right now. The AMD stock HSF is noisy as hell. Just my $.02

Yes thats so very true!!

yet--part of having a nice computer is having a nice looking CPU fan.........vanity of vanity.......heheheeee 🙂
