but does the same thing.

Mine wouldn't work where it is supposed to be plugged into after a couple weeks, but I just plugged it into another fan pin, and it's been working ever since.

I've read of people rigging an aftermarket
fan to this and it working good.
Maybe I'll try that b4 i go payin to send it back to newegg.
$30 heatsink just ain't worth the probable 2 weeks
of waiting for RMA.
Maybe replace the 97mm stock fan with a 120mm one.
Whatcha think fellaz??

I once had an AC, similar to the Super Silent 4. I also was concerned when it spun up for a few seconds and then quit.

So I read the manual. The behavior is By Design for minimal noise. It should spin up again once you start generating some heat (mine did...).

Thanx for the info, but I'd rather not endanger my cpu.
Noise doesn't bother me much, the sound and music are turned up anyway.
I'll probably just get another fan and replace.
$10 as opposed to S&H on an RMA is probably cheaper,
and definitely faster.

Your CPU isn't endangered by the fan spinning down when heat output is low. The heatsink is still there, pulling heat away from the CPU and allowing that heat to be sucked away by the case fans. When CPU usage increases the fan will spin up, providing additional airflow. The fan control effect is more noticeable here than with the stock AMD or Intel heatsinks, because the stock heatsinks are less efficient and require more airflow -- thus their fans cannot be spun down as far or as often.

If you don't want this behavior then disable fan control in the BIOS.

Hmmm... Thanx, but the thing completely stops, have hooked just the fan p to another fan port
but it does the same thing, Kicks on for a second or two then nada.
Idle emps go from 40C to 46C ..CPU..core 1, 2, and 3 are at 32C
I have all fans set to 100% on SpeedFan and still no luck.
Bad fan I guess.

I had a bad fan on a freezer 7, just e-mailed customer service and they sent a replacement by mail, had it in 3 days.

The fan stopping entirely is fine, as long as the CPU temperature is still within the acceptable range as published by Intel. Realize that most users here have a tendency to over-cool their processors, even though this results in a PC that is often louder -- sometimes much louder -- than necessary. 46C at idle is plenty cool. Now, if the system crashes due to the CPU overheating under heavy and prolonged load... then you have a problem. If your system is stable under an extended load test then ignore the temps.

Also... with Speedfan, you may first need to go into the advanced settings and tell it to disable the BIOS fan control (sometimes called 'SmartGuardian'). If you don't do that then Speedfan's fan control settings will do nothing.
