I'm working on an old PC for a friend, and one of the plastic pieces (on the socket) that the heatsink clips to broke off. So now the heatsink won't stay on. Would Artic Alumina Adhesive keep the heatsink on? They say it's not supposed to be used on CPUs, but I think that's just because normally you don't want your heatsink permanently attached to the CPU. Is this OK? Any other suggestons?

if you don;t want to spend the money on a new heatsink, then just used the adhesive.. the k6-2 have a protective thermal plate anyways.. I had a compaq with a k6-2 and it was clipped and glue on.. worked without a problem (until i started to OC and mess with it that is).

Budman,

Thanks for the suggeston. Actually, I tried that just a little while ago. There's a component (round thing with copper wires running around it) that blocks the 3 prong clip on one side of the socket. (see link: mobo pic) Also, I don't think they will be upgrading the CPU as it's a K6-2 500, and the maximum the board will handle anyway.

DaNorthface,

Thanks for the input. That's what I was hoping to hear. I figured the metal heat spreader would protect the cpu, but I wanted to hear from someone who had done it before. Thanks!!
