(CBS 5) OAKLAND The Oakland Raiders late Thursday denied an NFL Network report that said the team plans to fire coach Art Shell after the current season concludes.
Not only did the franchise deny the story, they issued a statement attacking NFL Network television reporter Adam Schefter, formerly a Denver Post sportswriter.
"Adam Schefter has always been a false rumor monger with respect to the Raiders and anti-Raider based upon his relationship with Denver and Mike Shanahan," the statement read.
"No decisions have been made relative to the 2007 Oakland Raiders nor will they be made for some time. Adam Schefter could not have gotten his information from a reliable source because there is only one reliable source and he doesn't trust Adam," the statement concluded.
Schefter, a former president of the Pro Football Writers of America, covered the Denver Broncos for nearly 15 years. He also co-authored a book with Shanahan, the coach of the Broncos.
This year's Raiders, with a record of 2-12, are just one loss away from matching their 1962 team for most defeats in franchise history.
