Local forests are (were) burning because of local asshat.
The real story you won't read in the newspaper article:
1. local 70-year-old drunken asshat asks if he can hunt on private land
2. local 70-year-old drunken asshat is denied by the landowner
3. local 70-year-old drunken asshat gets angry and sets the private land on fire in two places
4. local 70-year-old drunken asshat has a reputation for being a firebug anyway, and has previously been under suspicion for arson, even though there was never enough evidence to make an arrest
5. speculation is that since the local 70-year-old drunken asshat is indeed 70 years old, the system will be lenient on him, in spite of the fact that several hundred acres burned and countless $$$ and manhours were spent battling the blaze
