Windows ME POS!
I just upgraded my MB to:
Abit KT7 Raid w/Duron 700
128KB Ram
ATI Xpert 2000 Pro AGP
C:=WD 18 Gig,D:= Maxtor 20 Gig

On initial startup I Booted to my OLD HD w/win98, no problems, updated the drivers, still ok, re-installed the video drivers from the ATI CD (Rage 128), reboted, works OK.
NOW!
I reformated C: drive, booted off the Win startup disk, ran the WinME CD to install ME on drive C:
Arrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrg!
Twice even!
1st time, ME loaded, but the video driver support was very mimimal, couldn't get out of 640x480 lo color. I reloaded ATI drivers from the CD.
Upon reboot: I get this error message:
Windows protection error. You need to restart your computer. System Halted.
keyboard is lockedup so the only way I can restart is reset button or turn it off!
Ok I hit reset, get out of safe mode, win ME will bootup, BUT did not update the video drivers.
OK, I get the old trusty WinME CD, and reinstall it!
NOW, I get to the drivers part of the installation, it restarts on it's own, (I asume it is at the video driver part)Arrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrgh!
same error message: Windows protection error. You need to restart your computer. System Halted.
This time from trying to reinstall ME!
Does anyone know what gives? Is there a CONFLICT with the Ati card or drivers?, I searched ATi's website minimal info, but says no known conflicts. What Gives?
Any insights on this problem would be appreaciated. TIA

Got a crazy question for ya-

Did you load the Via drivers?? The drivers that come in Me probably do not support the KT133 chipset hence the lockups and such. With nothing but the video in reload the system. Once you have the system reloaded install the Via patches from the MB CD (it will be a start) then the video and all other drivers.... Finally once you have the system loaded go up on the web and download the most recent VIA updates and install those.
