OK this is my first official RANT. my only dsl company near me sucks
:|:|:|:|:|:|:|:|:|:|:|:|:|:|:|:|:|:|:|:|

On January 15th, I called SWBELL to sign up for their basic ADSL plan.
its 39.99 a month for one year, and if you sign up before the 31st of Jan, you get free equipment(the modem and nic). ok so I did that and they said I could have the dsl on the 29th of Jan. OK so i was like cool, wait 2 weeks and my lines will be activated for DSL. the 29th comes and I don?t have any hardware or anything at my house. So finally I decided to call them and the told me that they didn?t have enough ports and that I would have to wait until they add new equipment in their CO. They told me they are scheduled to add more equipment on Feb3rd. I asked, do you usually inform your customers that you have failed to provide the service, or you do let them find out on their own? The sales rep said she doesn?t do that. :| . I said fine, I would just wait till the 3rd.
the 3rd comes and I call to see if I could be activated for DSL soon. The rep told me that they DELAYED the installation of equipment until Feb 28th. I was like :|!!!!!
I asked, are you SURE it will be done on that date?? they said again they weren?t sure and that this time they would tell me that my lines are activated. OOOOOOKKKKKK I says...
Finally March 2 I get a letter telling me that DSL will be affective on the 13th. Im like YAY:). A couple of days later I got the registration packet and software. They also said that UPS will deliver the actual modem to me within 7-10 business days of when I got that letter. Ok Im waiting all day for the modem and I sit here to find no UPS truck outside my door. :|
I call SWBELL up and I said that i am supposed to be able to use DSl today at my house. They asked me if I got the registration packet and I said yes but i dont have the modem. she said ok please hold. I hold :disgust:. she comes back on and she says that some how my stuff didn?t get to ups and that they will resend it and I will have to wait 3-5 business days.
!!!!!!!!!!!!!:|!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The thing that gets to me is that there are two options.
You can do the self-install which I did. this is where you install the nic and the modem yourself and you don't have to pay a tech 150$, so you save yourself money.

3 of my friends that don't know much about computers got DSL and paid a tech to come out and install their dsl for them. They got it on the FIRST try. 2 weeks after they called both of them were up and running.
:|:|:|:|

why me?:frown:

Hmmmm, VERY similar to my story...

Order DSL, 2 1/2 months later still don't have DSL.

Call DSL Provider and tell them to go SCREW, Call Cable Modem Provider and was hooked up and on the net within a week...For $10 less a month, TWICE the speed (download AND upload) and NO HASSLE.

I signed up int middle of December for Verizon DSL and have recieved all the equipment, with everything in working order.

Except the actual farking service, which they have pushed back to EARLY APRIL (they're GUESSING the fourth) because the bastards were greedy and took too many orders! Why do I stick with them? a.)I am a masochist and b.)lots of people with RR in my neighborhood.

It took SWBELL farking forever to get us squared away, way back when they were doing bridge service. (thank GOD we signed on back then, none of this PPPoE crap) My friend waited for 2 or 3 months for service, too. Morons. :|

I dont think that DSL is worth waiting for that long, But I guess if thats the only high speed internet it is. I had simalar trouble trying to get my cable up, but that is in the past and I am over it.

My cable was easy to get installed. I just went out to compusa got there package deal. Signed up got my free modem and network card went back home and was on the net in less than an hour.

Sorry I just had to share that.

whoa, and I was considering telocity because swbell was taking a long time.
The main reason I went with SWBELL IS that the CO(central office) is about 3-4 blocks away from me.

All my friends say that I will get really good speeds because I'am close to the CO. One of the sales rep said I would get faster than most people to..lets just see if its true.
=/

Even if it is only 40KB , which my friend gets who is ALMOST outside of the dsl area, its alot better than what I have now. I would take 40kb/sec over 6KB/sec.
:Q

Hey, welcome to phone company DSL!!!
I work for Whorizon.
Thats a classic case.
Most DSL providers that are phone companies are actually just a ISP (SDA). And have no guarantee on time or service etc.
They are not allowed to know proprietary information from the phone company, ie. ETA dates :D
Sucks, but hey, welcome to big business.
