Arrgh! please help me identify what's wrong with my second computer!

Hi there,
I'm very frustrated with my second computer's inability to connect to the internet... I honestly don't know what to do next.

Here's the situation...

I have two "main" computers in my house, one in the study, the other one in the living room. I've had, for a very long time, a Linksys 1310 router.

Both computers were connected to this router since 2004, and they were both able to connect to the internet - the router also has wireless capabilities, so I can always connect my laptop to the 'Net as well.

Last month, I decided to switch the two computers - the one in the study was moved to the living room, to serve as a HTPC (it's much more powerful, and has a Thermaltake Bach case, which looks good next to the other A/V equipment.) The one that was in the living room (I call it Zen) got moved to the study.

However, since the move, I've been unable to connect to the internet on Zen.

The Bach machine has no issues, it works perfectly. But it seems as if Zen went kookoo (pun intended).

Mind you, apart from the physical move, there was NOTHING changed in either systems...

Zen can no longer connect to the internet. I have Google as my homepage, so if I fire up IE or Firefox, I get to see Google's main screen, but I cannot navigate away from it - no matter what URL I want to visit, the page never loads, it just works away at nothing, in the background.

I can't surf the net on it, I can't update my virus and spyware definitions, and generally I cannot use it for anything else than office work and an occasional game.

I have no idea what happened. I keep looking at the Internet connection properties, and there's nothing suspect going on - it should get its IP address automatically, from the router, but it just doesn't seem to work.

I tried manually changing the IP address... nothing... maybe I'm not doing something right.

I verified that the cables are properly connected... and they are. If I attach my laptop to the network cable used by Zen, the laptop surfs the net quite happily, while the WiFi is off. So the cable is good, and the signal is clean.

What am I doing wrong here? I'm totally clueless, so I hope someone with more networking experience can lend me a hand.

Thanks much!

There is another thread in OS with someone having a similar issue. While your cable is probably ok, its possible your network card has an issue with the longer cable length. Try setting the card to 10mb duplex (first) and see if that resolves the issue. If it does, might be easier to just change the NIC to a newer one.

Thanks, I will try these solutions, this evening.

Also, while poking around in the Event Viewer, I noticed a few errors along the lines of IP Address conflict, and they seem to have started right after I moved the computers around... hmmm...
