I get it, we're just a nation of consumers, not producers - we'll all end up serving pizzas to each other!!

well, partially. More accurately, they are "assembled" here in the US. Many of the sub components are shipped from Nippon.

Lots of Japanese cars, true, but a lot of them are made here with US parts and labors, can't say the same about GM, Ford, Chrysler, since many of them are made in Mexico and Canada. For example, the new Toyota Sienna has over 90% domestic parts, can't say the same thing about a Ford Taurus.

Micron does indeed make and assemble the memory chips here in Boise, ID. Micron is the biggest employer here in Idaho (pretty generous to the universities here too). I have a lot of friends working there, some of them got lay off recently :(

Going to get flamed for this but I blame it on the Unions. They had their need at one point but now MOST (not all) are nothing more than corrupt groups that strong arm owners who have put everything on the line to start a company. Until the unions lay off, I don't see much more coming back to the US. If I ever start a business and my employees go Union, I'll shut down my company. [/minirant]

Booby spears, boy bands.
How about movies? As bad as they are, hollywood's movie earning is much more than that of the rest of the world combined.

Yes. Unfortunately it's built crappy, looks bad, and doesn't last long, so I don't buy it.

I agree. Unions have become what they were there to prevent.
