Can any of you CD burning experts assist me? Here's my setup: Easy CD Creator 4.05, Plextor Plexwriter 8/4/32 IDE as master, Toshiba SD-M1402 DVD-ROM drive as slave, Imation CD-R media. I'm trying to burn ~300 MB of data. When I'm through, I can read the disc fine in the burner, but not in the regular DVD drive. Yes, I closed the session. The DVD drive is relatively recent, it can read other burned discs just fine.

I've had the burner for a while now, but never really used it much. I have the need to backup a lot of stuff now, though. Just a couple of months ago, I remember making a data CD, just dragged and dropped and it worked great. I can't figure out what I'm doing wrong now. I tried disabling DMA, writing at 4x instead of 8x, but I still have the same problem.

What options should I be using? Joliet or ISO-9660? Track-at-once? Session-at-once? Disc-at-once?? Arrgh!!

Here is what Plextor says, but it sounds like you've already covered these bases.

You might

(a) try a different brand media. I like TDK.

(b) Use 74 Min CDs if you are currently using 80. 80 can be more prone to trouble.

(c) see if other drives besides the Plextor can read Plextor-written CDs. If not, maybe the Plextor has gotten a little out of whack. If they can, then the DVD becomes even more suspect

(d) do a burn you can't screw up, like a straight copy of another data CD. If the DVD can read, then maybe you're screwing something up when doing the writing.

Good luck.

I have the same burner/DVD setup as you, but run win2k. If you reboot, will the DVD drive read the burned CD?

I had an issue with the new version of Nero, almost the same problem, burn a CD, DVD drive wouldn't read it. I thought I was making coasters, and threw some away until I rebooted leaving the disk in the DVD drive, magically the drive would read them after a reboot(even dug the ones out of the garbage..all OK after a reboot. Downloaded the patch(updated version actually), and now all is well.

What about another burner proggie? same thing?

Try the burned cd on a friends computer, see if it can read the disks, if so it is a dvd problem not a plextor problem.

Isn't Easy CD Creator 4.05 a packet writing program? If it is, that might explain your problem. Try using Nero or another software package and burn the same information as a CD-ROM disk and see if the DVD can read it. Also try some of the other suggestions made here and report back your results. Anxiously awaiting word from you 🙂

Nelson, Direct cd is Roxio's packet writing software.

bolomite, Have you tried updating the ide drivers?

I sold my old writer and installed to friends system and install easy cd. The cd seemingly burned folders showed up but no music on ANY cd player including the burner. All cleared up after updating drivers.

Hope it works for you.
