I just reinstalled WinXP on my laptop.
Even using a WinXP with SP2 slipstreamed on it took FOREVER to download all the small updates since then!
I fvcking hate it!
It was download 3 updates, restart, download 3 updates, restart .... over and over.
Why can't the stupid thing just download and install all updates in 1 sweep?

Can all updates PLEASE be packaged into a SP every 3 months?

NLITE is a convenient machanism to handle updates, but it's really geared for those that reinstall a lot. For single users, what's the difference? Turn auto-updates on, tell it to happen at 3am, leave the PC on a few nights, and you never need to manage anything - it's all automatic.

That's why I love broadband and systems with fast hard drives... 😉

I wish there were a better solution that didn't depend on third-party tools to work (come to think of it, there probably is something in the MS KB, but I'm too lazy to search for it). 🙁

There is - use WSUS, or integrate the hotfixes into your install source.

Or just let it do updates at 3 AM when you are asleep, and never be the wiser. What's wrong with that?

If you download the newest installer thingy or whatever it's called it makes the downloads much smaller and keeps a local copy of the installer so it doesn't download + installer, download + installer. I fix computers for a living and it's actually sped up the process of when we have to format a computer and reinstall Windows and the updates.
