ARRGGHH! Is there anything that can be done to quiet my IBM 36LZX?

I used to have a FK-604, now I have an SX830. I DON'T HAVE ANY FANS ON right now, and its louder than my old case w/ 2 fans. The wide open design is awesome for cooling but its pretty cold here so it never even breaks 30C w/o case fans.

Its not really that loud, but its getting on my nerves, its like the heater is on I can hear that low sound. ANNOYING!

The source of your problem is probably your HD, try unplugin your HD and start up your comp see how that sounds for you. try putting your finter on the CPU fan for a second listen for the sound change, next put your finger on the power supply for a second...listen. Find which one is your loudest source and then work from there.

Believe me, its the HD. I've run the computer b4 w/o the HD plugged it.

I love my 10K RPM HD, but maybe its time to get a 75GXP again. I remeber that thing was wisper quiet.

You can go a little further and just add some acoustic foam around your HD to further supress this noise maker. Read my recent post from today about acoustic foam, theres pics over there too.
