Al Qaeda is planning a mass-casualty attack to rival September 11, but preparations have been disrupted by arrests during the past several months, according to U.S. intelligence officials, the WASHINGTON TIMES is reporting in Tuesday editions. MORE///

Intelligence reports also stated any major attack is likely to be preceded by smaller-scale strikes -- including assassinations of prominent people in the U.S....

What do you think they're not planning something else and our good people have been thwarting their efforts?

We were complacent and that's why what happened did happen. We're now vigilant....

Unfortunately eventually something will happen.

Yay for US Intelligence!!!

Unfortunately, Kiyup is right... Our intelligence has to catch the terrorists every time, but the terrorists only have to slip by once.

The assassination aspect makes sense. If I were a member of Al Qaeda and wanted to create instant terror, I'd attempt to kill as many prominent corporate leaders as I could at once, or over a short period of time. First off, it's a strike against American capitalism, and secondly, these executive's probably aren't expecting to be assassination targets.

Not that Washington Times is an unbiased source

American Intelligence obtained videos of training in which show training for assasinations of Political Figures and Corporate Execs and teach them how to burglarize, Rob someone, make small bombs and we have also found detailed plans for their "dirty bomb" designs.

Good point, but one dirty bomb or forbid small nuke in NY or DC will bring absolute mayhem to this country.

It certainly would, but I was thinking of assassination in the same context as the article; a way to enhance the the mayhem from the results of a single specific attack to a generalized assault.

Remember it took awhile to catch the sniper in the DC area? Think of 10 or 20 of them at once.

I seriously doubt they thwarted any specific attacks and also doubt there will be any concrete information in the paper tomorrow. I'd put my money on Bush's pr people and spin doctors to leak this one.
