Array Microphone - What is it?

I have one those, and I think it is just a directional noise canceling microphone. It works quite well, with little to no echo. But it is still an analog microphone so you still get some distortions.

Asus says:

Array Microphone
The M2N32-SLI Deluxe is also bundled with the sophisticated array microphone. The array microphone creates a reception cone between itself and the user, and will receive only the sound coming from the cone. It will filter sound coming from other directions, eliminating most interference. It also features ?Echo Cancellation Technology,? which eliminates the annoying echo often experienced with audio and voice applications.

It's for desktop VOIP/Chat stuff apparently.
