Hi All,

Just did a full install of Windows XP pro and I don't know beans about how to work it yet......

I'm used to windows 95 and 98 where you can go into the start menu settings under advanced and move
shortcut icons into the groups or folders you want.

My son has installed a lot of games on the computer and I was going to go in and arrange them in his own gaming
folder but I don't see any of the shortcuts listed.......but the start menu shows a lot of them......

What am I doing wrong?

Thanks,
Jim

There's always lots of stuff in the "All Users" profile too. Sometimes when you install it asks if you want to install for "all users". If you do, the shortcuts end up in this profile. Other times the installer just puts then in "all users" w/o even asking. All the "All User" shortcuts show up on the Start Menu along with the "YourUserName" shortcuts so you can't tell from looking which ones are which.

Thanks for the info.....I found out that you can right click on the start button and then go in and edit......

Basically XP Pro's start Menu is "dynamic." It get populated with programs by your frequency of use. You can customize it - or - the easiest is to use the classic Windows Start Menu (a check box option, and that will give you your old time, sortable Start Menu.

Right click on the Taskbar, then hit the Start Menu Tab, and select the one that suits you.
