October 2nd is the 140th anniversary of Jules Verne's "Around the World in Eighty Days."

Do you think it would be possible to create a race to celebrate?

Is it possible to complete one WU in 80 different projects in one day? Somehow I'm guessing only those with large farms and a lot of time on their hands could do it.

I don't know if it is even possible to only grab one WU per project, even with a "Connect every 0.001 days" setting for BOINC.

This would be easier if we didnt have two teams, Anandtech at #473 and TeAm Anandtech at #136 for run time!

One has 83 current members, the other has 96.

But, as mentioned in some older threads, combining is not possible, nor is it possible to change captain in the other team. WCG does not have any routine for that; and the other captain - well, we just can not get hold of him. 🙁

OTOH: our team, with fewer members does so much better ...

Neurona@Home grabs one at a time. We can do the same with a script of some kind.

I figured this would be like the original challenge. We would have 80 days or less to get it done.

We could use the Clanks on Free-DC to count the projects that have RAC.

We could also use two virtual machines of one-core each. One for Linux and one for Windows. The first VM in each category to reach 80 Clanks, wins.

We have plenty of time before 2 October to run some tests. And this would give us more exposure on the projects during our October sponsorship on Free-DC.

We could invite other teams to compete and score it like the Prime Grid challenges.

Suggested minimum PC:

Able to run virtual machines.
2 cores---one Linux and one Windows.
16GB memory (or good swap file for the large WUs.)

Each VM has an identifier that is unique to the race so we can extract its info for the stats.

We should discuss how GPUs could fit into this scheme.
