didnt they project yesterday that he might not make it because there was not enough fuel?
apparently, one of the fuel gauges misreported how much actual fuel was in the plane at takeoff.

Hes back over US soil now. He is scheduled to land @ 230pm est I believe.

An apparent problem in the fuel systems of the Virgin Atlantic GlobalFlyer had prompted him to consider ending the flight in Hawaii.

But Paul Moore, the mission's project director, said Fossett was encouraged by strong tailwinds and the results of a shifting of fuel from the plane's outermost tanks to its central ones.

Apparently he got lucky.

"I am feeling tired," Fossett said, adding that he been taking "minimal naps while keeping an eye on the instruments."

sorry, I was up until almost 4AM with flu-like symptoms, and after afew hours rest, I'm at the office getting some contracts written.

Right... and his solo flight means what to mankind? I feel quit accomplished as is. I don't need to spend millions to prove anything to anyone.
