Arod to Boston deal DEAD (most likely)!

Negotiations are over thanks to Selig. It's really too bad. Both Arod and Boston wanted it and I would like to see one of the games premier players play for a good team but it looks like the players' union and Bud Selig put an end to it. Apparently if you sign a contract you cannot make less than the contract is worth even if you want to....("I'd like to make LESS money next year, that's right....what you say I have to make more?....bastages").
In a sense Arod shot himself in the foot by signing that contract though. Take a look at this editorial, summed up: His catch-22 of a contract assures his current team won't be good until he leaves and at the same time, assures he can't leave.

He shot himself in the foot by signing that contract... If he really wanted to win he should have gone somewhere else during that time.

I think it was a good decision by Selig because if they allowed Arod to restructure his contract for less whats to stop everyone else from doing it? Everyone would want to be on a contending team....

I wouldn't be surprised if this doesn't die as easily as you may think. Bud said that only Boston/Arod couldn't speak about it, but Boston/Texas can. And he also said "at this time" meaning he can always open it up again

Exactly. did you see the kool-aid smile on his face when he signed with Texas?!?!

now he realizes that Texas sucks and he wants to move on...give us a break. he could have been greater then what he is now, wearing WS rings...

It may not be dead, Peter Gammons said he wouldn't be surprised if talks resumed this weekend and the deal was done by xmas. It was a major revelation that Hicks (Texas owner) cut the money he wants from 25 mil to 15 mil on the Manny $$$ issue.

Arod looks like a jackass now b/c it shows that he's really all about the money, and not winning like he said. To say, "Oh I'll take 30 million less, IF the player's union approves it (knowing full well that they won't)" is pure BS. ARod could have turned his back on the player's union at any time and did the deal, he's just a greedy bitch. Are you really unhappy Alex? Well put your money where your mouth is and tell the union to shove it, you pssy.

Also, who is Bud Selig to say WHEN AND WHERE a deal can and can't be discussed? The media really slammed him for his time limit of 5pm yesterday, what a crock of sht. If a 2 teams want to discuss a complex trade, they should have as much time as they need to negotiate. The negotiations weren't a detriment to MLB in any way, in fact they were hyping it, so I don't see where Selig has ANY say here.

I want to see the Sox give it to the yanks next year, but I hope A-rod isn't a part of that, he wanted the big bucks so play in Texas and rot and when your contract is over you can look elsewhere. He will put up good numbers but won't when to many MVPs on a loser.

I also hope the next time a player holds out for more money the Union tells them just to shut up and play, a contract is a contract. But you know that won't happen.

Selig has say because Boston is talking to A-rod and Agent, which is tampering, and that is not allowed for extended periods, they are only given a window to work out a new deal, usally for 48hrs, and they got longer then that.

Hey PayRod!! [nelson] Ha-ha!!! [/nelson]

Have fun scraping the bottom of the league barrel every year you greedy SOB. 😛

Now I am about as anti-union as they come AND I do beleive that the UNION is ruining Baseball BUT AROD had NO CHOICE. How could he go against the union when in fact it was the strenth of the union that made it possible for him to sign for a QUARTER Billion dollars. Also even if he had said that he was willing to take a pay cut and to hell with the union it still would not matter because EVERY contract MUST be approved as part of the collective barganing agreement. Now I think the union should look at AROD's endorsement dollars will mopre than like far exceed the current level should he win the WS.

On the other hand he should have thought about that prior to signing.
