A couple of years ago everyone was saying 'you must get PC Power & Cooling power supplies they're the grouse gear - blah, blah, blah (stable, quiet, all that sort of crap).

Then 6 months later everyone is saying they're a rip off - 'they're just badge engineered genric powersupplies that have been downrated to cope with that slow fan that makes 'em quiet' blah, blah, Blah'.

& all of a sudden Antec powersupplies are the beesknees with the people wanting quiet powersupplies & SPI powersupplies are the beesknees for the power users (even though they are exactly the same as the Fortron Sources ones, well by then anyway)

Then 6 months ago, everyone, will people on the forums & the review sites are saying that Leadman's are the go - the ones with the push/pull fans (an 80mm job at both the front & the back). They're quiet, strong reliable, etc, blah, blah, blah.

Then all of a sudden the Leadman's are fuked, they breakdown, get RMAed, etc & Enermax ones are the go. Enermax powersupplies are being reveiwed left right & centre (as if any one needs a 430w or 530w powersupply) - 'they are quiet, strong, reliable, have real long cords, blah, blah, blah.' 'they even have a 90mm fan on the bottom' (as if its never been done before).

What I want to know is how do you review a powersupply without using it for at least 18 months 1st, as it can take 9 months or something before you find out its a dud - look at all the Leadman braggers, who are complaining about them now, will Enermax have the same problem in 6 months?

i say to everyone, get a reliable clean power supply that will meet your needs. screw what's "hip" and get something that's functional. kinda like passing over a bigger hard drive so you can have a plexiglass installed on your comp case.

On an almost related note... want to know what's the new fashion trend in Korea? I was reading the Wall Street Journal the other day, and people in Korea are dressing like Bill Gates. LOL... right down to the glasses too!!!

I just use whatever powersupply came with my case! If I need to upgrade I dunno what I'll get but probably what is cheap and supposedly "reliable". I agree how can you rate a powersupply without testing it for a few months? Sure its quiet while they test it but how do you know its not a pice of cr@p?

Quote from overclockers.com :

<< I work for a fairly big computer store in Germany. Since we sell mainly AMD systems, we ran into the PSU problem. Many systems were returned due to insufficient wattage or broken PSUs.

I recommended the Enermax EG351P-VE to my boss since I was very happy with mine. At first, it cured all our problems and our boss accepted the slightly higher price.

But a few weeks ago, the problems started. More and more of these little darlings refused to work, or broke down during our 24h burnin. (We sell a sizable number a day.)

Right now, we have a 65% return rate, which is incredible for a product that was once so reliable.

We think the problem is a single poti that simply burns. We even had a whole box completely hosed because a small fire started. If they work for a week or so they are okay and probably one of the best and most silent PSUs.

But I am starting to lose faith, especially when Enermax support simply is in denial despite the fact that we are sending back over half of their PSUs.

I know that many of your readers use this PSU as it gets great reviews everywhere, and if they work they work great.

BTW I use Leadman 400w with dual fans. :p

They need supply to meet the increased demand, so the look to outside sources perhaps? The outside source pay a little fee to put <insert brand>'s label on the PSU, and then jack up the price as if their PSU's are the same quality.

Personally I have a no-name 300W that has run fine.

I use Enlight cases and the power supplies are fine. My one case is over three years old and it still runs fine.

We've got a guy over in GH trying to find a Black 21" monitor. Can you imagine the deals he is passing up because the damn thing has to be black? Oh brother...

yakko beat me to the Enlight punch. They used to be all that for cases and PS. Guess that was yesterday's news. Now it's some Wong Fang thang. Sheesh...

"Gotta have little blue LEDs too ya know?"

You said it Orney, look at all those 'how to' guides on the web telling people how to change their case LEDs from Green to Blue, & it seems like there are half a dozen websites with guides on putting a blue LED in a MS optical mouse.

& its all because blue LEDs arn't common, so they have novelty value (even though 'they' all say it looks better).

I bet if Blue LEDs were as common as dirt & cases all came with them standard, all those sites would have guides on replacing them with green LEDs.
