$350mil seems low.
They were married before he made the bulk of his money.
Anything after marriage, she is deserved half. (and he likewise of hers)

Read the article... $350 is more than half his worth (>50%).

divorce laws are out of hand.

This. The whole point of alimony and child support is so people don't starve to death when the sole provider of the house leaves. Google says Maria Shriver is worth about 100 MILLION dollars. Yep, she's starving alright. That's why she's skeletor; I'm sure it has nothing to do with cocaine or amphetamine.

They married in the 80's though. I know Arnold was a millionaire well before then but I think most of his money was made with his movies in the 90's.

Right, but she doesn't get 1/2 of everything they've ever earned aggregated - its 1/2 of marital assets, which is current assets that were accrued while married. It doesn't matter if they were worth a billion in 2000 and spent half of it between now and then - its what they're worth now. So $350 mil is at least half, if not more.

The article specifically says that Arnold is VOLUNTEERING to give more than legally required specifically because he wants to send the message to his children that he realizes what he did was wrong and he wants to accept responsibility for his actions. Granted, that's speculation, but it wouldn't surprise me in the slightest; I disagree with his politics, but his philosophy does seem to be owning up to one's mistakes and accepting responsibility for them.

Because as well all know, the difference in quality of life when you're worth $150,000,000 is so much more terrible than when you're worth $500,000,000.

They met during the late '70s and Maria and her extended family's push and connections are what got Arnold his early film roles. He would be some washed up musclehead if not for Kennedy influence. He was ambitious young guy who became successful but he wouldn't got there without her connections. She deserves every penny and more.
