Actually Reagan worked in goverment for about 10 years before running for CA gov. But yes, arnold will be lacking in political experience, but it should not be hard to do better than davis.

Why shouldnt he become a politician?

The concept that one has credentials that make one suited to be a politician is sort of inane and silly. I think it's exactly the concept that there should be some sort of career path called 'politician' that has made government the monstrosity it is. In any representational democracy, the minute you seperate the office holder from the people, you are going to get problems. Can anyone say with a straight face that the congressman or MP (If you're Canadian/British) really represents the area they are elected from? Perhaps on a map of electorate districts, but otherwise the career politician is more beholden to special interest groups than he is to the voters that put him there.

Call me a dreamer, but I would love to see campaign finance reform that would eliminate big money from it's current position of stifling influence, and at the same time dramatically limit how long any person can serve in public office.

Perhaps it's just a different point of view that no matter how much Arnold talks to him, Davis may never see.

If it was as easy as right thinking people getting together and agreeing on what is best, there wouldnt be any need for political parties, would there?

I am not convinced that Arnie is brilliant, or even the best man for the job. But I do know a few Californians who are of moderate/left leanings who think Davis is an unmitigated disaster. Add that to the republican Californians I know who say almost the same thigns and I have to wonder. Know what I mean?

Qualifications for office? How about his intelligence? He has a degree in economics, has written a book, started a mail-order products company, launched himself into movies making millions of dollars, and has been involved in other business deals that have netted further millions.

As has been written above, career politicians (and lawyers, I might add) have contributed to many of the problems in the US government (local, state, and federal). It is always good to see a capable, intelligent person entering politics without significant, and unnecessary, "experience" in office.

I'd rather have him as a president than 80% of the "born in the USA" candidates. he might have been born Austrian but he is All-American, something a great number of my fellow americans can not claim. Hell, and Bubbles the Chimp would be lauded after following Grey Davis. I see him getting elected, serving a couple of terms then getting an exemption to run for President..

I dont believe we have ever had 3 presidents, of the same party, serve 2 terms. I am all for the Republican Party and wouldnt mind voting for Rice but your scenario in that order sounds like a nitemare to me. Pun intended!

Pretty much my sentiment. Cali's only other option is to elect another corrupt, business-as-usual, lying career politico. From what I gather Arnhuld's politics are pretty mild (and left) for an R. It's winnable for him.
