I lost the gamble and got the ARNGA from newegg.... Before I decide to put it together, is it worth anything?

This is also a new one on me, a green colored XP...not that it makes any difference.
This is a week 15 chip.

It seems to me basic alphanumeric system tells me this should be a newer chip then the Agoia's anyways....

I think she will be fine...test her out!!!

I declare this chip no good.

166mhz @ 1.85v, it gets almost to LOADING WINDOWS, then just hangs. I don't have the balls to put up another .025v.

I'm gonna guess that its actually a relatively old core revision. Odd thing is that there's almost no mention of it any where on the web. I ran a google search on it, and the only mention of an ARNGA XP core revision was on some Italian site that returned a 404. I also tried the OC Database at overclockers.com and there was only one ARNGA 1600+ XP which was on on an MSI KT266A board and reached ~1650MHz with 1.8 vcore.

Ok I am pissed. I ordered one from Newegg on Thursday and got it today. It is also a ARNGA. I bought a used Epox 8k3a+ off the forums hoping to hit 166FSB without unlocking and now this. I guess I am one of the unlucky ones? I will try and overclock it regardless but I have lost all hopes after seeing this post.

brtspears2 has detroyed my faith :( (j/k)

But I am still pissed that I bought the Epox more than anything which ain't here yet. Now if mine don't do 166FSB I will have 2 options not overclock or try and unlock the bridges(which I really don't want to do) and overclock with the mutliplier.

EDIT:What speeds can you hit and it be stable? Also what kind of ram and mobo do you have?

I'm running my AROIA at 1.6Ghz now. I tried the pencil trick ( I know, I was stupid. :( ) and guess that some graphite dropped in between the gap and hard lock the whole multiplier. Nonetheless, the CPU is still running like a champ and my FSB is at 152Mhz. Once I get my Kt400 board, I'll be going for more. :)

Thank god these are 266Fsb CPU. :)

Well I had to do it. I was gonna wait till my KT333 came in but after seeing this post I was just curious what my CPU would do. I am in WinXP(typing this) 166FSB,PC2100 ram,1.85 voltage(which sucks :( ). I couldnt do 166FSB at default voltage but hey if this will do at least 1.7Ghz I will be happy.

Lets not forget I am on a Shuttle AK31a KT266a which is suppost to have no 1/5 divider so I think I maybe getting somewhere. Although I don't think I will get there without a little voltage increasement. I ain't even sure if this is stable. I ain't gonna stress my PC since this mobo doesnt have 1/5 divider I don't want to take a chance on damaging anything in my system.

Not sure on mine. All I know is I ain't gonna buy another CPU from Newegg with the attentions of overclocking it. I ain't gonna take the chance. If I decide to try and find another 1600+ is will be one off the forums. I ain't gonna take any chances on getting another from Newegg. Heck I figured I would be getting basicly what everyone else was getting but I guess not. These could be the newest ones?

"Speeds, most I got was 143mhz fsb, terrible."

I just tried for 166FSB I didnt increase little by little. It posted np but my IDE devices was having problems and it wouldnt go past the post screen. So then I tried 155FSB and I didnt even get a post. I had to turn my PC off and clear the CMOS. Not sure if you have tried it yet but if not bump your FSB straight to 166FSB just to see what it will do.

3Dmark2002SE wouldnt even finish a single bench. This could be CPU then again it could not be. According to Sandra my PCI bus was running at 43 and my AGP at 80 something which is out of spec a bit. That could have caused the crashing.

This is a week 15 chip.

I got a green AGOIA 1700+ on an Epox 8K5A2+. I ordered mine awhile ago from newegg, and i can only do about 147FSB with this crappy K-Byte PC2100. If i decide to sell this stuff i might get some Corsair and try for at least 175.

I may buy a better chip off the forums once I sell my Shuttle AK31a and 1.4 Athlon. But who know this Shuttle is a low budget board maybe it wasnt made to be fully stable when overclocking. Where the Epox is so maybe I will be able to get better results with the Epox.

If I can hit at least 1.7Ghz at 1.8 voltage I will keep this chip but if not then I am gonna find me a AROIA or similar chip.

Man that core must really suck. When my 1600 AGOIA was locked it ran 171FSB at stock voltages under load for an hour before going down. I am afraid to buy an XP1600 from Newegg now. I got my 1600 from Thompson's Computer Warehouse (www.twco.com). You might want to try them next time, great service.
Sorry about your bad luck.

No way am I gonna gamble trying to buy a CPU from a online store unless they are guranteed the steppings I am looking for. Never again. Only way I will buy from Newegg or anyone else is when I am buying and not planning on overclocking. I would asume buy off the forums so you know what steppings you are getting.

I ordered a Epox 8K3A+,3 memory heat spreaders and 2 60mm to 80mm adapters thinking I was gonna quiet my PC down and be able to run my new 1600+ at default voltage man was I wrong. I don't think a Panaflo L1A will keep temps down enough if I have to up the voltage. Doesnt mean I won't try though. I will post when I get my Epox to see if that helped any on speeds.

I talked to the owner of GameVE.com . If you order an XP1600 from him, and you mention AGOIA - Y in the order form somewhere, you'll get one.
