they rushed this order through china because there is a 'need' for these black berets ?
dumb. there is a need for a well-trained soldier, well-armed, and well-led, not a
fashionably conscious trooper. is this army general planning to unleash our soldiers
onto the model catwalks of milan and paris ?

if so, they need to get our enlisted boys and girls in step with the heroin chic and start
feeding them less. possibly arrange for drug deliveries through osama bin laden too.

These Black Berets are an outrage to begin with because they take the respect away from those of us who earned the right to wear them. Now they give the contract to an enemy who is a communist. This is ridiculous, I am glad I got out when I did, the new chief of staff obviously has his head up his ass.

That is great. I cannot believe they are going to send money to China!!! Especially when they can buy the ones made in America for less.

It is also disresepctful to those who EARNED a black beret.

Geez, how stupid is the Chief of Staff?

warcleric: I'm not a Ranger. I was 'speaking' figuratively. I should have worded my comment better.

But if I were a Ranger...I wouldn't be happy wearing a beret made by any foreign country let alone the repressive nation of China.

WTF is with all this armed forces fashion concious crap... everyone should just wear the damn fatigues and that should be the end of it. I never understood why police officers wore those uncomfortable clothes how can they run after a crook in those shoes? In my opinion they should be wearing jumpsuits or something similar that doesn't restrict their movement as much...

I think they should take it a step further. Give every soldier a Purple Heart and a Congressional Medal of Honor.

I am not sure how giving everyone berets will improve morale, the significance of the beret will be lost once everyone is able to wear one. Well maybe the regular soldiers will get the Communist berets while the rangers get the U.S. ones?

[edit]I incorrectly thought they were going to make everybody's beret the same color, so there is still a way to distinguish them apart :)

I find this idiotic, yet very amusing at the same time.

Shinseki must hate Rangers, to so deliberately insult their sacrifice. Not everyone in the military is elite, and trying to spread esprit with this beret nonsense is cretinous. Dubya should fire his ass for being that obscenely out of touch with the loyal soldiers it is his duty to lead and respect. How many Rangers died under ChiCom guns in Korea? This is horrible.

That's exactly my point, why the dress uniforms? So all of a sudden, the U.S. gets attacked, and what happens, they take a time out to switch out of those uniforms into the combat clothes? I've never served in the arm forces before so I'm definitely an outsider with my views, but I say screw that, everyone should be in their combat clothes 24/7...

I never understood that either. Maybe they were tring to find a middle ground between the traditional "respect-getting" suit and actual functional wear?
