Hope this is the right forum and not a repost.

FORT CARSON, Colo. (AP) - The Army dismissed a cowardice charge and filed a lesser count against an Army interrogator who sought counseling after he saw the body...

I had no idea that the charge could be punished by death.

Sure. Wartime deserters (a form of cowardice) have historically been shot on sight in most armies, including the U.S.

The last official execution of a soldier by the Military... John A. Bennett, an Army private, was hanged on April 13, 1961 for the rape and attempted drowning of an 11 year old girl in 1954.

His clemency was denied by John F. Kennedy.

There are a number of crimes that are punishable by death under the UCMJ, but rarely have ever been carried out in modern times.

The last soldier to be executed during wartime was Pvt. Eddie Slovik, shot for desertion in 1945

He must have an asshat commanding officer for this to go that far. Its hard to prove anything about the condition in the field, and I can understand if he put his unit at risk, but charges like that have to come from a serious gruge.
