he shot the Bernese mountain dog from point-blank range

the dog leapt at the 39-year-old man and bit off the end of his nose

Bleeding profusely, the man called police and was taken for treatment in a nearby hospital.

Well, maybe it was a draw seeing how the dog collapsed after the counter-attack. Still, I have to give it to the dog for counter-attacking after being shot.

Well it sounds like the dog did what was expected of him and this guy got what was coming to him.

Great to hear the dog is alright. Always nice to hear of an animal defending itself against someone trying to kill it and succeeding.

My thoughts exactly. They are really beautiful, powerful working dogs with a calm and generally friendly demeanor.
