So I got a couple copies of ArmA (stupid name btw, I didn't even know it was the sequel to OFP) and finally got it to stop its nonstop CTD on my computer, and was wondering if anyone plays it, and suggestions for mods, servers, etc...

I was looking over the official forums for mods but it seems pretty disorganized.

Pretty cool, looks incredibly good, even though I have to run it at pretty low settings, its still awesome.

Singleplayer sucks. If you want to actually learn to play and have fun with all weapons/vehicles/coop, play Evolution. Half the servers are running it, and it's pretty addictive.

The official forums are pretty bad. The mods are crazy strict and lock/close many topics, and most topics about modifications are for, like you said, disorganized.

Doesn't seem like a bad game but still has terrible frame rates, even on an 8800 GTX ultra with moderately high settings. At full view distance it is not very playable.

The demo was awful but don't let it spoil you on the game. They made a mistake releasing it in that condition.

does your character move the same way in the full version as in the demo? if so, forget it.

I never downloaded the demo, went straight to the source (full version). However, if you're talking about the sluggish, hard to control movement, then yes. It really does take a LONG time to get use to. Took the entire singleplayer campaign and a few days online for it to stop bothering me. The movement and interface don't get better, you just get use to it:(.

exactly what i mean. i couldn't stand to play the demo like that. there's no way i'd have the patience to play the full SP campaign. I'd never get used to it.

I dunno, I haven't really had any problems with it, it seems pretty fluid to me, besides the stuff like you can't shoot while running and you have to wait for your gun to come back up...

I did play OFP though so maybe I'm used to it, who knows

In regards to the sluggish control movement that bothers some people... There is an in-game option called Floating Zone which controls how much free movement there is for aiming before your character actually moves. If you move the slider all the way to the left, it will be disabled and the movement will feel a lot more like your typical FPS.

No,it's not that. Lot of people confuse 'sluggish' with the free float, but I have mine all the way to the left. so any moouse movement results in moving the whole screen. However, the sluggishness is still there in the form of mouse 'lag' that is suppose to simulate weapon weight and momentum. I'm over it now, but to people who don't have weeks to get use to it, it's a turn off. After a few days, even I was ready to just give up, but Evolution sucked me in (read:crack) enough to make me stick with it.

Anyone have any luck playing with Vista? After about a little while all the textures get screwed up and it eventually freezes. Any workarounds?
