I'm looking for a new FPS and thought maybe i'd give ARMA 2 a try, i've been playing STALKER Clear Skies and COP using the Complete Mod, i've also just finished Crysis, both have amazing graphics on max settings, graphically how does ARMA 2 compare, gameplay wise i'm sure i'll enjoy it because it's similar to the original Flashpoint which i loved.

Graphically speaking -- in my opinion -- it's more like vanilla Stalker if I had to do a comparison. I don't recall much in the way of eye-drooling candy, but it's far from bad and fit the theme well enough. Just don't expect Crysis graphics out of it. I want to say my biggest complaint was some low resolution textures

I never did get too far in the campaign. For some reason the game felt a lot clunkier than Op Flashpoint, and there were various scripting bugs and weird, unexplainable bits of AI.

The tutorial was impossible to finish for me, for example, as whenever I fired the AT weapons against the dummy tanks, the OpFors would trigger and kill the instructor. My temmate's AI would sometimes have them run into a wall or a corner and just sit there, bolt off to who knows where, or looking around for enemies that didn't exist (maybe that was a feature? panic in combat and all that).

*shrug* It just didn't give the same feeling that Operation Flashpoint did. I never tried the expansions, though, nor some of the more recent patches so your mileage may vary. I played it for a while, but got tired of the game's oddities and its relatively poor performance on my old system, so haven't bothered to get around to playing it again.

that about sums up my opinion of it. it had potential and when played against and/or with other humans online, it was decent. (there was some sweet massive battle videos on youtube that swayed me to buy it in the first place). way buggy/glitchy though. i havent touched it in close to a year now so ive not played any of the expansions or tried with any recent patches. also not a run and gun. much slower than say bad company 2 which ive been playing the crap out of since day one and much more involved with lots more keys to remember. you also need a beast of a system to run it decently, though there's enough options to fiddle with to get it to run acceptably. i might have to fire it up again this weekend and see if its improved any...

My joy with it comes from the mission designer. If you take the time to learn the proper programming commands, you can create some pretty crazy stuff. I once took the small island map and created a large scale helicoptor/marine assault on a fortified russian airbase. If you use "go codes" and time everything right its pretty impressive stuff. The hard part for me initially was learning how to get helicoptors to drop off and pick up troops..but that was easily learned. There are some great mod sites out there.

I personally liked ArmA better than ArmA II. ArmA was horrendous when released but after a few patches, it was pretty fun. I don't know what it is about ArmA II, but as another poster described (and I agree), it just feels "clunky."

This is not a FPS though.. it's more of a military simulation so dont buy it thinking it's a MW CoD or Crysis type of game.
much slower paced. shows its merits when played online with ALOT of people with good leadership and coordination.
