OK wow, saw this ticker across the local broadcast as it was live, but no one was showing the video; just reporting on the flare gun, police breach, massive explosion and yes, I was quite intrigued by wtf is happening nearby. Ticker also summarized "no update on status of inhabitants" Well um...yeah, about that.

but damn, that is way beyond what I had in mind. I thought maybe a fireball out the front door and some windows/chunks blow off, but holy crap, is that what a regular gas explosion, plus maybe some additional accelerant looks like? What are those sparky chunks?

That's an intentional natural gas explosion. The occupants in the house opened up gas lines. Maybe the cops shot in a flare or tear gas to set it off. Or the occupants in the house made their peace with god and lit a match.
Reports say that police were responding to a complaint of a flare gun being fired from the house and, once police arrived, a person in the house fired several more flares before the explosion.

Then those cops aren't exactly the sharpest around.. I'd hate to be a cop with all that parts of the house falling down on me.

Kevlar isn't stupidproof!

Agree that looks like intentional fuel-air explosion, either gas lines deliberately opened up, or a large propane tank deliberately vented to make vapor cloud. Looked like a couple hundred pounds of propane or equivalent, looking at results of other propane/gas explosions.

The rumors going around on Twitter from people finding who the home owner is, is that it's an ex government employee conspiracy nutjob. He was apparently live chatting with people after the explosion as well talking about all this conspiracy crap. I just saw tweets about it and didn't really care to read about that crap though but pretty sure none of it's been confirmed yet.

I did hear local news talking about the guy as well but they said nothing had been confirmed that he was in the home or anything, just that he is the last known owner of the home based on public records. This was around 11am.
