On Thursday, Specter's campaign sought to bring into question Sestak's roots to the Democratic Party. Specter's campaign sent out a list of Sestak's voting history in Delaware County, which the senator's campaign said showed that Sestak registered as an Independent in 1971, didn't vote in any primary elections from 1971-2005 and that he officially registered as a Democrat in February of 2006. Sestak was elected as a Democrat to the House in 2006.

"Congressman Sestak is a flagrant hypocrite in challenging my being a real Democrat when he did not register as a Democrat until 2006 just in time to run for Congress," Specter said in the statement. "His lame excuse for avoiding party affiliation, because he was in the service, is undercut by his documented disinterest in the political process."

About Specter

On April 28, 2009, Specter announced that, after 44 years as an elected Republican, he was returning to the Democratic Party,[5][6] citing that he was increasingly "at odds with the (current) Republican philosophy[7][8] and indicated that polling showed that it would be difficult for him to win the 2010 Republican senatorial primary against Pat Toomey."[7]

You cant make this up. Specter is a damned clown calling somebody else's devotion to the democrat party after he just switched in a lame attempt to save his own ass.

Fail. We all kinda knew this was going to be a joke but this is kind of a surprise statement.

The "I forgot which side I was on" comment he made a while back tops this one for me.

Thanks for making me defend Specter. He actually has a point, since he's not claiming that he's something he's not, but is rather educating the people about his opponent in an apparently valid manner. It just makes it clear that the election is between two relatively recent converts to the party, probably both for reasons of convenience.

This was the problem Democrats had with the South back in the 60's, you would have people who belonged in the Republic party by their politics preferring to say they were a democrat in order to get to be in the majority for whatever benefits, sometimes because the districts had a history of voting for democrats for decades.

More Republican sour grapes after Specter jumped parties after tiring of GOP bullshit.

Give Specter an A for self survival, an A for egotism, and a solid B for being a powerful Senator with seniority. As a partisan democrat I could still respect some of the Spector positions when he was part of the enemy camp, he has not changed much since even if he has a D rather than a R in his label, and ole Arlan is still a man of integrity.
